15 Minute City Row Housing Philosophy Disguised as Northwestern Ontario’s New Housing Boom? Rowing Down the River of the “Dejected Destitute Lodging”.

Is this really where we are headed? Is Greed and Elitism that Rampant? Time to make our Governments Accountable

Looking at this artistically formulated picture, using AI, no doubt, shows a dream of a homeless haven, on the river bank of the Kaministiquia, depicting harmony and serenity. A dream comes true. However, if one was to take a closer look at this anchorage, it is just another thoughtless plan, to house the homeless, for as cheaply as possible and more importantly, out of sight. The so-called homes in this picture are very small, perhaps 250 to 300 square feet, at best, resembling a fair-sized lawnmower shed. And apparently, there will be no need for plumbing because they will be using portable waste facilities, obviously shared, and a bathhouse. So much for privacy.

If one was to look at the Kaministiquia, placing these units near or on the reserve may not be welcomed by the indigenous, so where? Up river, near or on, the Kam River Heritage Park. Why this location? Because bus service is accessible from the Heritage Park. Ergo, because people placed in these units will more than likely get bored, living in a semi-remote area, they will want to go to town. Will they give these homeless people free bus passes?

Given the nature of this plan, is seems like a grasp at a straw, avoiding the obvious use of the old Ontario Mental Hospital building which would make a lot more sense to utilize for temporary housing for the homeless. However, that would mean the province would have to donate the facility for use by the city. I guess that is out of the question? This building would accommodate two to three times the population of the homeless then this fiasco on the Kam River beach.

Still, you hear of all the reasons why a building like that could never be used for homeless, and excuses that it has asbestos in the walls, or something to this nature, and how impossible it would be to remove the asbestos and replace it with safe insulation. This place also has a Large Boiler Facility, that would create a job or two, heating and powering this monstrosity. But most likely, the province is standing in the way of that notion, because lord forbid if the province had to donate any building for the homeless, let alone one that is rotting away empty, being heated and maintained, and guarded by security, with absolutely no one in the building.

I would be safe in saying that using this huge complex of a building would put a huge dent into homelessness and give a few people a permanent job, being a facility for the homeless like this would be permanent and more private for transients that have to live there. Because, in most cases, being homeless is rarely a permanent reality, unless the community with these homeless people do not offer them alternatives, like jobs.

Instead, they want to build a facility that resembles a post war concentration camp. If you like to be on the river, you may adjust to this type of living, like a bible camp, or Jones Town, but sooner or later, you may want to merely go back into town and find somewhere else to live.

So, let us do the math on what this project would cost? Each unit, built by contractors, would cost a minimum of $10,000 each, bringing it to a total of 10,000 X 80 units to $800,000. Excavation would more than likely be required, thus costing an additional $30,000 to $70,000 at least. It would be fair to say even with the minimal plumbing, wiring, hydro servicing and other constructions required, it would be a couple a million of cost to accommodate 80 people, realistically. Not very cost effective unless they stack the units with more than one occupant. Would that be safe, or legal? Not likely.

That projection would make the Ontario Mental Facility look a whole lot better of an investment. Certainly, it would cost more, but here again, we could use something that is just an eye sore, being empty. It would put a building and large landscape to good use, instead of housing rodents. Of course, this facility could also be equipped with a medical staff, or a free clinic on site, due to the possible drug and alcohol issues that certain homeless individuals perpetuate. But, at the very least, it would be more contained and safer of a proposition, instead of being on a river where soiling and drowning will most likely occur, due to the nature of these substance abuses.

So, there you have it. The strategy to introduce the 15-minute philosophy into our community, like so many others across Canada. Because, this is what rapid housing projects across Canada is all about. Isolating people into small areas, buildings or units, limiting their mobility rights, extinguishing the need to use automobiles, and force people to use public transportation, if needed. However, the strategy is, to provide everything you need and a small area so you do not have to leave, for any reason. Then a certain time will come along, like another plandemic or emergency, to enforce your isolation for untold periods. Being a resident of Ontario, that does not make me feel secure inside, being, the Premiere of Ontario, Ford, was responsible for Ontario’s longest lockdown records, that superseded any country in the world.

It is time for people everywhere to stand up and tell our governments to do the right thing and do what is right for society. The masses rule the government, not the other way around. They work for us, not the other way around. So, let’s get these shysters accountable and put them in their place, and say no to the 15-minute city philosophy permanently, simply by, not buying into the lie. Because the only ones this demented philosophy serves is the Elitists and Conglomerations, in their bid to kill our freedoms in the guise of “Safety” ultimately busting the Constitution. Stand up and say what you want. Stop avoiding the conflict, because if you continue to do so, it will only get worse.
